I often use Paint.NET for simple editing projects, which don't require features provided by advanced editing software such as Gimp or Photoshop. There are however, certain situations which require images to be exported for editing in other programs. The native format (.pdn) is the only file format provided by Paint.NET which maintains layers after saving. Because (.pdn) format is platform dependent, many other programs are not capable of editing these files.

Paint.NET PSD Plugin enables loading and saving images in Photoshop (.psd) format, which is more compatible with other editing software, such as Gimp.

How to Install

The plugin requires Paint.NET version 4.0 or later to be installed.
Open the ZIP folder and copy PhotoShop.dll to C:\Program Files\paint.net\FileTypes. Restart Paint.NET and the plugin will automatically be detected.

Paint.NET version

Open Paint.NET and go to Help > About to check which version of Paint.NET is currently installed.
